Starting to fish

Hey guys, as my name probably suggests - I'm quite a newbie to fishing! Anyway, me and my Dad are planning to start Coarse fishing sometime soon but we're not too sure as to what we need to start. I have heard about the fishing liscence though I don't know much about anything else! Could someone give us a run down on exactly what we'll need to get out there and start fishing?

Oh, and if possible could someone explain exactly what the fishing season is and when it is this year?

Thanks in advance,

Matt.

Re: Starting to fish

If you goto the EA website below this will explain about the rod licence. If you goto your local tackle shops they will advise the best gear to use for beginners.

Re: Starting to fish

Decide exactly what kind of fishing you would like to start with ie general coarse fishing or specialist ie carp, then approach your local tackle shop where they will put you right on the best tackle for your needs. Pick up one of the monthly mags eg Improve your Coarse Fishing, where you will find a whole range of prices to give you an idea of how much to spend. Tackle is a bit of a minefield for beginners, so go to your local shop with some idea of how much you want to spend, and they should point you in the right direction. Dont go mad to start with, and as you gain more knowledge of our great sport, you can add as you learn. Tight lines. JOHN
