| Angling Clubs with a CRAYFISH Problem OK Guys, I have been tiring to get a start in crayfish trapping with loads of brick walls thrown up at every turn. I eventually got in touch with the River Lee warden and he said that trapping was not allowed on the River Lee ( I am amazed at the amount of red tape one has to go through in order to help get rid of a pest) but his advice was to get in contact with a fishing club preferably one with a problem with crayfish and ask if I could trap on their waters – Question: Can anyone put me onto a club within London or surrounding areas with a crayfish problem. I have seen many pictures of large catches from other members of this forum and to be honest I am getting a bit jealous. Any help would be much appreciated. tMike www.handymike.net 07956 332498 |

| Re: Angling Clubs with a CRAYFISH Problem I fish an estate lake with Turkish Crayfish in it which we remove kill and burn using cray nets each year but we wouldn't allow anyone to do it in our water for a living for two reasons (a) we wouldn't want someone netting because we couldn't be 100% sure that they were not removing other fish as well. and (b) The trapper may be returning the smaller ones to maintain future nettings. I am sure that most other angling clubs would think the same which is why you are having trouble finding venues to net. Plus it is illegal to net crayfish without a permit regardless of whether they are foriegn ones or not. Luckily we have catfish that have put on weight feedng on them and so they are getting much fewer in number lately. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |

| Re: Angling Clubs with a CRAYFISH Problem Cheers BoldBear, I am planning to get a licence from the EA but I need permission to trap from a lake of river owner before I apply. tMike Quote:

I'm sure I heard somewhere that an EA permit is only valid for a 24 hour period. I also heard a saying somewhere...Laws are for the obeyance of fools & the guidance of the wise.... Especially Bureaucratic ones..... As an old poacher friend of mine used to say.... The only crime is getting caught. Of course, I could'nt possibly comment..... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
