Locations around Watford?

Hi there, been freshwater fising for a few months now, mostly at a small public lake in Stanmore. Pretty sure the place is vastly overfished for its size. Does anyone know of decent free (or not) locations around the Bushey / watford area or within driving distance?

Hi MBush,
Welcome to the site,
Here are a few waters in the area within easy driving distance that I think have day tickets.

Aldenham Country Park Reservoir:

Elstree, near Watford, Hertfordshire, England, UK
Tel: 020 8953 4978

Batchworth Lake:
carp, tench, bream, roach, perch,
Frogmoor Lane, Off Harefield Rd, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, England, UK
Tel: Uxbridge Rovers Angling & Conservation Society

Stanborough Lake:
carp, crucian carp, bream, roach, tench, perch, barbel, pike
Stanborough Road, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, UK
Tel: 01707 335636

Gaywoods Fishery:
carp, tench, barbel, roach, rudd, goldfish
Home Park Link Road, Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, England, UK
Tel: 07778 030939 or 01923 269578

River Colne, North Bushey: FREE FISHING
pike, chub, perch, roach
North Bushey, Watford, Hertfordshire, England, UK
Tel: The Tackle Carrier on 01923 232393

I would recommend joining a club such as ‘Watford Piscators' as they have some excellent waters around Watford which you can’t fish on a day ticket.
I live in Borehamwood and I belong to 'Verulum Angling Club' which have some of the best fisheries in the country in the Hertfordshire and Bedford areas with record sized fish of most species so I have not needed to fish a day ticket water for years.

I used to fish the Lady Capels stretch of the Grand Union Canal and there were some excellent chub swims plus some excellent Roach and Perch.

Hope this is of some help to you.
tight lines
BB

Top man, thanks a lot for this BoldBear. I'll contact the Piscators and definately be having a go at a few on that list.

Your welcome BM.

NB. That Lake that you fish in Stanmore has some nice tench but it was probably my father and his mate who introduced several buckets full of small tench back in the 50's/60s when they seemed to be absent.

Re: Locations around Watford?

I know this thread is a year old but incase the guy above reads this:

The lake in Sanmore that we were talking about is on Stanmore Common and it was a lake that queen Bodicea used to camp by (according to the history books) when she used to sack nearbye roman settlements and cities, London and St. Albans, so it has quite a lot of history.
