Re: Float Fishing

ok its fairly straight forward but it will take a while to explain. . .
yea its very similar to a seafishing float setup but the float will be fixed instead of a sliding one. first you need to choose what type of quarry you are after and the conditions to fish in beacause there are thousands of different floats out there for different uses. A waggler float will probly be the best to start with. you thread the line through the float, slide the float up to the depth u require to fish, secure the float in place with the split shot these can be bought from the tackle shop im sure you no what they look like but the most common ones you will use will be bbs. ok once u have the float set up at the right depth secure the float by squeezing the split shot onto the line either side of the float the weight should cock the float in the water, you will need a few more split shot down the line to anchor the bait to the bottom! you might need to adjust the weight by adding or removing the split shot depending on the float. now all you need to do is tie the hook, im sure you have your favourite knots i always use a four turn water knot but its up to you. now if your wondering how to find out the depth you can use a thing called a plummet which looks like a bell with a piece of cork at the bottom. you thread the hook through the eye of the plummet and hook the cork. guess the depth and cast the float in, if the float sits perfectly on the surface then the depth is right but if its below the water it is not deep enough. eventually youll get it right by moving the float up and down the line when you find its right you want to fish roughly about 4inches of the bottom. choose your bait and bobs your uncle its the same as sea fishing mate youl get the hang of it. watch the float and hold on. dont be tempted to strike on small bites wait for it to shoot under and watch out for the fish swimming towards the surface with your bait because the float will lay on its side this is a bite too! thats float fishing in a nutshell mate hope that helps!! tight lines
