Its driving me mad!!!!!

Does anyone here fish the Gipping?
I often go to a stretch at the end of Bramford where its teaming with Chub, Roach, smaller Pike, Perch, a few Tench and the odd large Common. Its gin clear and you can see them all sitting around, feeding and basking. Ive tried so many tactics and baits that its getting expensive as well as frustrating
Throw in a handful of maggots and theyll be mopped up in seconds. Put a few on a size 20 (or even smaller) hook and every maggot will be demolished except that one/ones.
Same with bread, luncheon meat, casters, worms etc. Ive trotted my bait naturally without weight, with and without floats and/or shot, ive even tried fishing the fly. All they do is watch the bait waft past on the current.
The river runs right beside a footpath and they are rarely spooked by people walking past, they just get used to it, but there are plenty of trees and bushes to hide in/behind.
Now im by no means a fishing expert but im not totally ham fisted either.
HEEEEELLLLLPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes but not many.
I met one guy who said "ive never seen a fish caught from here before, had any luck?"
Thats pretty much the same from most people to be honest.
Its insane, theres stacks of fish in there waiting to be caught and not one will bite. If anyone wishes to have a go, im more than happy to watch and learn.
I was watching John Wilson the other evening and he told us keen viewers how Chub are opportunistic feeders. He was trotting bread flake in a tiny stream and whipping them out one after another. So off i go with bread in hand full of optimism.....nothing. They just watch it float by as much as to say "wtf is that???" Im completely baffled.

Are you sure they are taking the loosefeed? that its not disappearing fromview or taken by minnows?

perhaps you could try fishing on the bottom and ignoring those fish you can see? otherwise perhaps mornings/evenings are your best bet? you could also try feeding less, more often, and for quite a time before you start, to get the fish really competing.

i dont live anywhere near the venue and have only read a tiny bit about it. those few 'tricks' may be worth trying though.

Good Luck

ps. what is the flow and depth like? and are you fishing the waggler, stick, feeder or pole?
