| Re: River Culm, Devon cheers pingu, ive been told its more of a roving anglers venue. Should i leave the keepnet at home? i tried a roving session last time i fished the venue on the free stretch, me and my mate fished little link ledgers with maggot or bread and had an incredible day, catching roach, dace, chub, brown trout, perch and the two biggest suprises were a small rudd and an eel on breadflake! the river should be in perfect condition- cant wait! |

| Re: River Culm, Devon its opposite mole valley farmers on the road to honiton. most people refer to it as 'the greenhouses' i think you can park on the road but im not sure. what sort of fishing do you do? i cant comment on the trout fishing really, though ive taken a few whilst coarse fishing so it cant be too bad! there are some cracking fish in there, particularly roach (ive had them to 1lb 7oz) and perch (to a shade under 2lb) but like all rivers its best with a bit of colour and water on. My first trip there was the most memorable though- 18lb of dace and roach on a january afternoon! lovely. if you dont mind a bit of stick float fishing then the section between the road and greenhouses is the deepest and worth a try. the middle swim (accessible through a chain link fence that has been felled) is a good starting point, though may seem empty if the water is low and clear (keep that in mind!) BTW my session at killerton today was very enjoyable. i walked the length trotting maggots under an an avon float and caught 50 dace, 9 gudgeon, 5 chub and ... wait for it... 2 baby barbel!! my first (and second!) of the species. all this in just about 5 hours and there was A LOT of walking involved! does anybody know if the exeter club have stocked the culm recently with small barbel or is this a promising sign for the future? if someone could explain to me how to do pictures on here i can show the barbel. Cheers Russ |

| Re: River Culm, Devon A good tactic for Chub on small rivers & streams is to first walk the whole length & feed four or five peices of luncheon meat in each swim especially close to features such as overhanging trees or undercut bank. Then start at the peg that you first baited & ledger a peice of meat close to any features for about 10-15 minutes. If theres Chub there, bites should be almost instantainious. Travel light with just a rod, landing net, bait & a few spare hooks & weights. Good luck. | Re: River Culm, Devon thanks greenheart! for the photo and chubbing tips. is sweetcorn worth using for chub or would you say meat is better? yes, dave i have seen some pictures of fish in the 7lb bracket that were taken from the culm but these small ones i couldnt believe. here they are then: the first one about four or five ounces ![]() the second- a monster nudging half a pound ![]() Russ |

| Took a look at the Culm at Cullumpton today. Looks ideal for Barbel. Anyone know if Day tickets are available? __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
