New Bait Success

A few days ago I was reading an article in "Improve Your Coarse Fishing" where someone had gone to an Estate lake using a particular brand and type of pellet and had a lot of success with the Tench.

The bait in question was Hali Hookers from Sonubaits http://www.sonubaits.co.uk/products/hali_hookers_range/.

On reading this I decided to try them myself. I actually took 3 different types of pellets with me:

8mm Hard Pellets from the Dynamite range - I've used these before with a fair amount of success but I find you have to use them with a bait band which I don't like using much as I find it affects presentation too much

10mm Soft Pellets also from the Dynamite range - This was the first time I used them and although I did catch a couple of Tench with them I actually found them to be too soft. I was using a waggler and found that although the stayed on the cast, I could see the pellet still attached as it hit the water, as I reeled back into the baited area the pellet simply came off. Either that or as soon as any fish so much as nibbled the pellet it just came off

11mm Hali Hookers - These are labeled as 'soft' pellets and you can easily thread them on a baiting needle but they are actually still a bit hard. This means that they will withstand multiple casts but more importantly these pellets are packed with oil, so much so that when you squeeze them it really leaks out. Clearly this proved highly attractive to the fish as it landed me several Carp and Tench and Personal Best Crucian Carp of 1.5lb.

At £3 for a small pack they aren't that cheap but they really are worth trying out IMHO

Re: New Bait Success

I have used hali hookers, there are a bit like a sponge soaked in oils, they do seem to put out a good trail of flavour, I will have some in the bait bag in France if you want to try them Paul.
