Hello, Question about putting a hook to nylon on?

New member here hello all

I've not been fishing since I was a kid and today got some hook to nylons. I just want to know if its the same idea as putting a normal hook on but with a bigger hoop? Or is there a diffrent way.

Thanks a lot

Ps: Been looking around the forum and already learnt some different things

Re: Hello, Question about putting a hook to nylon on?

To attach hook to nylons to your mainline, tie a loop knot (double overhand is best to prevent it slipping) in your main line. You now have a loop in your main line and another on the hook to nylon.

Pass the loop on the hook to nylon through the loop in the mainline, then pass the hook through the hook to nylon loop and pull tight.

Re: Hello, Question about putting a hook to nylon on?

I prefer to use a figure of eight loop knot in the mainline as this maintains a high knot strength. Check this link to see how it's tied...

Re: Hello, Question about putting a hook to nylon on?

When I use a hook to nylon, I tend to shorten the hooklength, this is because I like to use a dropper shot, and want avoid weakening the hooking link by squeezing on a shot. Often reduce the hook length to 6"-8", this varies venue to venue, and the target species, and of course conditions.
I normally tie my own hooklengths, but the Fox mini hair pack are pretty useful.
