Grand union canal

hi my name is mike and i am pretty much brand new fishing. i guess i am what you would call a casual fisherman . I live in south bucks very near the grand union canal but cannot seem to find any info on who owns the canal etc and who i will need to pay to fish there. There ar fisheries right next to it in rickmansworth and am not sure if they own a section of it?

any help greatly appreciated

Re: Grand union canal

Hi Mike and welcome to our humble fishing forum.
The best way for you to find out is by taking a trip to your local tackle shop for several reasons;

A) they might be able to help you to answer your question
B) they might even sell the day tickets
C) and you will be able to get some good advice about which stretch of the canal to fish.

It could be that more than one club owns different stretches of the canal.

Re: Grand union canal

I have not fished at Rickmansworth for a few years but there used to be (and probably still is) some great stretches of canal around Rickmansworth especially near side streams, with some excellent Chub, Perch and Roach. Rickmansworth Aquadrome was also good with big bags of quality Roach, Rudd and Bream as we fished with water skis passing close to us.
If it is still the same you have some excellent fishing ahead of you.

Re: Grand union canal

I did my first fishing on the grand union at ricky opposite the tescos. I know that stretch is day ticket and I have had decent roach and bream out from there.

Best thing would be to ask in the tackle shop in Uxbridge as they will know which clubs run which stretches and where the hot spots are.

Re: Grand union canal

Hi,

I took my son down to the Grand Union in southall yesterday for his first fishing trip. I havent fished for about 6 years now, but used to fish the same section with my step son and catch plenty of Perch, some Roach and other bits and pieces. We were there for 3 hours using a mix of maggots and worms and didnt get a single bite, the canal just seemed completely lifeless. The water was very clear for the time of year, but I have never known it as quiet as yesterday. Anyone know if the section has been polluted or any reason for the lack of fish?

thanks
