Bait for each fish & tactics

As some of you may of read i'm new to fishing (Well kind of anyway) and i'm going to the Norfolk Broads on a fishing holiday on Saturday (This is the 2nd time i've been). I coarse/float fish.

I have been fishing just for fun with maggots not caring what i catch. They have all been tiddlers 0.5lbs perch and roach.

But now i want to step it up and catch say a Tench or bigger Roach, Perch and Bream.

So what bait should i use to catch Tench of a reasonable size 2 or 3 lbs (I would be happy with) or any decent size fish ??

I also bought 2 carp rods so any advice on using them starting off with ??

I think all this bait stuff can be overplayed.

I have caught many different species on maggots, from 2 ounce rudd to 10lb Carp ( I had my PB chub on two red maggots on a size 16 hook this weekend).

if you get the fish feeding on a bait then you will catch. In the summer a good heavy feed of maggots can bring in large fish, good old sweetcorn is good for allsorts of fish.

Pellets and boilies are good if the fish are used to it, luncheon meat and earthworms can also bring good results.

Just get them used to feeding on what you put in, or find what they get regularly, bread is a good bait for some species too.

Try a bit of experimentation, there is no miracle bait, despite what the bait manufacturers would like you to believe.

Ok thanks, i try maggots all the time and caught nothing more than half a pound perch...In 15 whole days of fishing.... I saw my friend catch a 1.5lb tench though on maggots.

EDIT: Were you coarse / float fishing?

bread bread bread bread bread!.......almost everything that swims will take bread....you would be amazed the amount of sea species i have caught on bread too

bait bait tonnes of the stuff from in water to land find your own secret formula or recipie by making your own boilies and feed the fish up with them freuently the drop a bait on the top a watch your tight ine or a dissappearing float be taken by a 20lb common or mirror.
