Re: Thieving SCUM First of all let me say sorry for the grief I've been burgled, (my own business twice, been mugged too) It feels like s**t. I am in favour of the lash on market day in thieves home town. Sadly this won't happen. What I think might be an idea, and mods may want to make a permant fixture to the site is a few ideas on tackle security. Thieves I'm told hate light, so P.I.R's are a good investment, insurance companies may insist on them after a claim. You still can get (I think) personal attatck alarms, these can be set with a split ring, then to tackle bags, so when picked up by a by a thief off goes the alarm, in a confine space such as a shed, they'll be in for a shock. Soe of our local fete's have stall run by crime prevention people, I bought some special markers at one, which show up under uv light. A more permantant marker will also help, varnish over it, as some inks can be rubbed out with solvents. Banana Steve was right, thievs will want to get rid of their loot asap, local car boots are a good place to go, try to make note of car reg of sellers. If poss sink a bucket full of stones and cement into a floor bean, put some chain in and padlock tackle of poss, it all make it harder for the thieves. The crime prevention officer told me they want to be in and out in a little tie as poss, we're out in the sticks and the police say the thieves want to i and out in under 10 mins. Plant thorny shrubs by windows, or where someone may try to get into the garden, Pyrocantha is a good one. Very sharp thorns. You could get into all, kinds of trouble for belting a thief, but if they get a nasty scratch you're fine. Someset police had a campaign to stop shed breakings under the title to 'Scratch a Thief'. Buy the best shanklless padlock you can get, and make sure that the means of securing said lock is very strong, you can spend a lot on locks, but a mini crowbar to prise one off for a few quid. Tack wire mesh over windows so thieves can climb in. Can't think of any more at mo.

Re: Thieving SCUM Sorry to hear about your gear being stolen, scum bags the lot of them. ![]() Theres some talk about some rod makers who are going to print a number under the varnish of some of their rods; with the same number on a card supplied with the rods. Its about time something like that was done. It won't stop the thieving B***s but it could catch a few out. Glad you sorted out replacements with your insurance. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: Thieving SCUM Now, now guys, I sense a lot of hatred here, towards people who are, after all only victims themselves. What we need to do is try and understand why they are doing this in the first place, and then try to help them with their plight. Punishment is not the way forward, and prison only creates a bigger and badder criminal out of them, which is not good for anyone. I feel it is a sad indictment on society today, that we start calling for a lynch mob every time some poor soul falls on the wrong side of the law. Thankfully the British Justice System in it's current state gives them all of the support and assistance that they need. The police, understaffed at the pointy end due to countless shiney arsed office wallers, take hours or sometimes days to come out to report the crime. If they do happen to stumble on a scallywag whilst on route from crime report to crime report, they then get snowed down with hours and hours of paperwork and pointless enquiries to satisfy the Crown Prosecution Service. If, at this stage, there is any chance of the bloke getting found not guilty at court, they will drop it like a hot potato, so that their government stats will not be affected. The police officer, by this stage, thoroughly demoralised and wondering when he stopped being a police officer and became an office clerk, doggedly sticks at it, and produces a water tight file, only for the chappy to get a punishment at court that is laughable. He may also get an all expenses paid stay in luxury accomodation, under the guise of a residential drugs rehab programme. Now, what I want you all to do is pull up a pink and fluffy bean bag and we'll talk things through. We won't do anything, but just talk about it, as per usual. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THIS BLOODY COUNTRY!!!!!![]() What we need is some discipline to be instilled back into society. These people are being brought up with no respect for themselves. This means that they have no respect for anything or anyone, hence the problems we read about every day. We are spending millions and millions of pounds each year in education, health and law and order, but you are urinating in the wind if it is not supported in the home. Bring back National Service is a possible, but you'd have to allow the people in charge to get hold of these kids. No point sending them there, if they just say "up yours" and the NCO's can't do anything about it because its against their Human Rights, poor dears. I wanted to make this post before, but it wasn't appropriate. Now Chris has been fully reinbursed by insurance company I feel it's ok to do so. Sorry to rant on, but, as you can tell, I feel quite pationately about this. If you have read this far, thank you for your time, Regards, Darren

Re: Thieving SCUM Just for a second there you had me hooked too. I was thinking that no wonder this country is going the way it is if we have police like you . Then I read on, thank goodness. The problem appears to come from a disjointed view of what respect is all about. "I is wicked man, because I is got a nife and i is ard. " Bull! You are a real man (IMHO) if you PROTECT those weaker than you and act in a courteous and civil manner to those around you. IF you are a mouthy little toe rag and someone puts you in your place then you should learn from it and be a man NOT go and get your GUN and shoot someone. Personally I respect any person willing to work for what they have and stand by their family and friends, neighbours and community. I could care less if they are of any colour or creed, have been here since doomsday or arrived yesterday. Not even relevant, it's what kind of a person they are that matters. Someone elses' stuff is theres, if you want to look, then look ,if you want to touch then ASK if you want to take it GO TO HELL and stay there. Rant over. I'm glad to hear your insurance company sounds like they offer a great service. If it's not against the rules of the forum , maybe a plug when they get it all done and dusted might help us all out. Cheers, Pete. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
