homemade floats first attempt

had a go at making floats , probably will be used for pike , bought some dowell pin from b&q and cut it to the size i wanted [ the size that would fit in my box that i keep my floats in ] lol

ABOVE cut to size ,

ABOVE
drill a small hole under the diameter of a swivel and super glue a swivel in place , make sure the glue doesnt stop it doing its name sake.

ABOVE carve with a sharp stanley knife the shape of any contours u are wanting , the wood is easy to work with , and its not as hard as it looks , either that or put your float inside a drill chuch , turn drill on and use a file to shape ,

sand after to make it smooth

select the colour you wish , i used left overs from cars iv had , but fluresent would be best !!!

mask up where u want colour to start and paint the bottom end black [ i used gloss but i would recommend matt finish ]

remove masking tape and paint the colour , its always best to paint white first , the colour shows up better with a white under coat ,always varnish after , it is a extra coating to stop water absorbing

a rough quick effort finished .

i'll take more time next time with better coloured paints

Re: homemade floats first attempt

a really need to find a good fluresant paint , they also need to be water friendly and fish safe [ non toxic] which is quite important and shortens the list of available paint ......
