help with canal carp

I fish the grand union canal running through leicester, and although I have a good success rate with the bream and tench running to 5lb, I can not tempt a bite from the resident carp.
They are definatly present as I witnesed a common of 9lb being landed, I am getting desperate to hook one as they are supposed to run to 25lb or so(according to local tackle shop).
Has anyone any ideas, all would be welcome.

Re: help with canal carp

I'd imagine that your best bet would be to pick a likely looking spot that has a few features such as overhanging bushes. Then spend a few days pre-baiting with Halibut pellet & Boilies. It may also pay to walk a fair way along the towpath away from where other anglers are likely to fish, so that no-one is in your chosen swim when you decide to fish. Good luck...

Re: help with canal carp

I have fished the grand union in Bucks for the Carp and had fish to 20lb. I have only had them by putting either a boilie or large trout pellet right on the far bank, with smaller pellets around it.

I fish for them 'Carp style' with 2 rods and quite heavy line as it is very snaggy where I was fishing.

There is your proof it works.
