New to fishing.

Im young and im wanting to start fishing as a hobby. Ive got money to spend on a rod and some lures and baits. What type of rod do you think is best for a beginner?

Im also wanting to have more knowledge on lures and which is best for fishing.

Re: New to fishing.

to be honest mate if ur new to this theres no need to becum a tackle tart str8 away so try not to spend all ur hard erned cash just yet. I started with a 2and a half pound tc argos rod wich u can use 4 most thigs but try n make u reel 1 with wots known as a bait runner as this is n advantage. as u get into it u will want diffrent reels n rods for diffrent kind of fishing i sooner hav 1 of each than just 1 really good 1 ;)

Re: New to fishing.

Thanks for all the help. Ive spoken to my Uncle and he is going to take me to a fishing shop a couple of miles out of Glasgow were he buys his fishing gear and he is going to take me to do a fishery to get practice and sooner or later i shall post my first catch.

Re: New to fishing.

Thanks very much for the help. I came across tackle bargains earlier today but i was sure on it being safe but im glad to know that theyre good and reasonable to buy with and i may look into the site more further. Im also looking at a rod in argos for £50. It is a coarse rod (3m length) with a test curve of 3.5lb. Would you suggest this a good buy?

Unless you are going for large carp then i wouldn't get that sort of rod. You best bet is to find a tackle shop in Glasgow, and talk to the owner or the staff, listen to what they have to say, and listen to their recomendations, they are there to help you in your fishing and not there to rip you off. The problem with buying from argos you pay over the odds for their tackle and to be honest it ain't the best stuff on the market. Like i said go to a tackle shop and tell them what type of fishing you want to do, i bet they will be very helpfull.

Regards, Steve

Re: New to fishing.

Hi Gerardfc.,

The Glasgow angling centre is one of the biggest tackle outlets in the U.K., might I suggest that you pay them a visit. However, don't go on your own, take an experienced angler with you to assist you on how to spend your money wisely. He or she will know your requirements and point you in the right direction.

Diawa rods are excellent with an added bonus that most of them are made in Scotland. If you have a problem they are not far from you for them to sort it out.

Regards

Drew
