Re: Coarse Fishing Berwickshire needed

Hello Jim, A good question is that Jim (ie) 'Coarse fishing in the Borders, is there any?' I live in NW Durham & I'm a 'quite keen' coarse angler. We, the wife & I, own a static caravan located near Bamburgh/Seahouses on the Northumberland coast. I've done a bit of sight seeing & travellng around in the 'Border's' area searching for coarse fishing venues but I've come the conclusion that there aren't any, not any worth visiting anyway. Whilst in Berwick I always call into the 'fishing tackle' shop at the bottom of the market place & 95% of their fishing tackle stock is aimed at the trout, salmon & sea fisherman. I've had the odd chat with the shop-people & they tell me that there is no demand at all in the Borders area for coarse fishing, in fact they couldn't even give tell me one 'coarse fishing place' to visit. Some time ago I 'got' the name of a place just off the Berwick/Wooler road & fished it (If that be the word?) around June time this year. The pond is owned, or managed by a nearby pub & although I am a relative amateur when it comes to coarse fishing I have never blanked yet. Well, I fished the pond in question for around 6-7 hours, I most certainly did 'blank', it cost me £5.00 & all I caught was a mild dose of sunburn. Not one sighting of a fish did I see, not one, not one single nibble! On top of it all the the 'bank access' to the pond was nothing short of dangerous! The only place I can recommend in the area, but it's one helluva hike from where you're at, is Felton Fence Fisheries which is about 6 miles North of Morpeth on the Wooler road. I've never fished the ponds, but I've had a look in over the pond close season which is December-March inclusive if my memory serves my true? FFF's phone number is 01670 570205, give them a call & they'll send you a leaflet. If you discover any decent coarse fishing venues in the Borders area please give me a call. Regards, Widjid

Hello y'all.

It's Widjid once again. I forgot to mention it last time I wrote but you could try contacting some of the fly-fishing clubs in your area & you MAY find that one or two will allow coarse fishing on 'their' rivers.
Not at this time of the year for obvious reasons, but when the fly-fishing season kicks-off you may get lucky.

Perhaps worth a try?

Regards,

widjid
