Thinking Of Buying An Electric Outboard Motor

Hello to you all. I went to Llangorse lake on Sat with my boy to do some pike fishing from a boat. We only caught two, but the weather was really good and we had a great day out. The only thing is ? rowing a punt around from 8 am till 5 pm gets a little tiring by the end of the day so i have decided to get an electric motor to do the job for me. Can anybody advise me on this.
Makes, models and places would be greatfuly appreciated.

Many thanks

Dave

Re: Thinking Of Buying An Electric Outboard Motor

I use one on my "mini-bass-boat" (I could've sworn I had a pic)

You won't go wrong w/a Minn Kota or a Motor Guide. I have both. The 1st one I bought was a Minn Kota, a $100 special and it still works fine, I now mount it on the front of my "boat".
I wanted the Highest pound thrust I could find in a 12volt electric (I dont have room for more than one battery), which, at the time, turned out to be a 54# thrust Motor guide.

Re: Thinking Of Buying An Electric Outboard Motor

Hello Omahayank
Thank you for your reply.
I will have a look at the motors you mentioned. When people give good comments about things there have owned and used themselves it gives you a head start knowing that what you buy is good and relyable.

If there is anyone eles put there with any info i would be really greatful.

Thanks again
Happy Fishing
Dave

Re: Thinking Of Buying An Electric Outboard Motor

I won it at the openning bid price of £75. They are £150 everywhere else so i was really lucky to get a new one for that much.
Cheers Dave

Re: Thinking Of Buying An Electric Outboard Motor

Heyyup Chaps,

This is a little late Stalker in that you've already bought your elecky engine but I thought I'd chip in with my piece in case anyone else may be looking for info. Not knowing anything about boats etc, I bought a 54lb thrust Rhino outboard in the summer from Ebay for £154.99 (p&p included) and I have to say it is a fantastic bit of kit. I purchased a 110amp leisure battery (very heavy!) to run it from and works brilliantly, I have used it on a wide and windswept Fenland river through the winter and it motors the boat lovely. It has a little power meter (0 - 10) on the top and I tend to hop up and down the river doing a little trolling and also to get from swim to swim, I've used it for a whole day and its only dropped down a few digits on the meter. I have a spare 45amp car battery which powers my fishfinder but which I can use as a spare for the engine if indeed its ever needed. My boat is a 10ft Sniper.

In summary, I'm very happy with the Rhino, it is a great bit of kit and my confidence in it is very high. Just to make me a little happier, when I was at the PAC conference in Sep last year, a stall was selling the exact same model for £349.99.

Kind regards,
Dave
