Question the Great Ouse any ideas

Im hoping some one could give me some help.

Basicaly i just wanted to know if the stretch of the Ouse from welmore lake up to downham market is worth fishing, its a fair size piece of water and tidal (for those that dont know it).
it always looks very promising but i have know idea if it actualy is as i have yet to see anyone fish it.
also what species could i realisticaly expect to catch, and what method would be best used, i thought it would have to be ledger to over come the current, but im no expert.

thats why i come to you guys.

any help apreciated

thanks

Re: the Great Ouse any ideas

Hi Guppyman,
I fish the upper reaches of the Gt Ouse which is totally different than the Tidal Stretch.

But I saw this Anglers Net Forum Post which appears to talk about about the < Downham Market stretch of the Gt Ouse >

Also here is another link which shows < tackle shops etc.in the area > where you can get the information you are looking for.

Hope this is of use to you.

Maybe someone else on this forum can help you more.

tight lines

Re: the Great Ouse any ideas

thanks for the reply Boldbear.
that article has given me a bit of hope. my main problem is that because of a condition my son suffers with, i have to stay as close to home as possible, and i would not go fishing with out him.
so i am limited to fishing watever water we can easily walk to. i live within five minutes walk of wells creak, the old bedford (the sections where they join the ouse) and the river ouse.

we have been a few times on the old bedford and had a few good days, 5 decent size pike, and a mixture of roach, dace, and a few skimmers. but the menace of the mitten crabs causes alot of problems; false bites, lost hooks etc. mostly when trying to fish the bottom.
this is why we thought we would give the ouse a go, also the last few time we have fished the bedford it has been really dead (probably something i am not doing right)

thanks for the help

Re: the Great Ouse any ideas

Hi,

I have a boat on thegreat ouse and i have fished every single bit of it now from the part so far up you cant navigate a boat up there and all the way down to denvor lock :)

and yes you can fish that strech it can be hard work but fish in the middle find where most of the boats go though and put your rig there and you should not fail to catch. i have caught small carp roach tench pike zanda rudd and dace skimmers basicly everythink realy

once you have found the fish just keep them there with littl and often amounts of bait going in and everythink should be fine :) let me know how you get on with this as i will try and go down over this next month and see what else i can tell you and help you with :)

hope this helps

Elliot
