Top Marks for Korum!

The other day I ordered a Korum Delux Accessory Chair from TackleUK.co.uk and the chair arrived the very next day.

Unfortunately the locking nut that is needed to secure the side tray to the chair was missing and this is where the trouble started.

I logged onto my account on the TackleUK website and raised a support ticket asking if they could send me the missing part. Now I should point out at this stage that I'm a bit of a computer geek and have designed and run numerous websites. I've been a PC user since the days of DOS but about a year ago made the leap to the Apple Mac at home (still use PC's at work). Why do I mention this? Because I raised the support ticket with TackleUK using my Mac.

After submitting my support ticket I receive an automated e-mail from TackleUK with a reference number and a link to view the ticket. When I click on the link I just get a page with a box for me to reply to my message in (I can't actually see my original message). At the time I thought that this was weird but just put it down to a badly designed website and left it at that.

Two days later I'd heard nothing so opened the support ticket and added a reply, again I had e-mail confirmation of my reply but nothing was viewable on the page itself.

Left it a couple more days.

Still I heard nothing so this time I try to phone TackleUK except that all I get is a recorded message saying that I should use their website to contact them!

I then send an e-mail to Korum explaining that my chair arrived without the locking nut and asking if it was possible to simply buy this part either from themselves or from one of their retailers.

A few hours later I get an e-mail back from Korum apologising that my chair was missing this part and saying that they would ship a replacement out to me that day! Top mark Korum!!!

To be fair to TackleUK I did try to contact them again via their website but this time using a PC and finally I did get a response although they didn't sound particulary apologetic and stated that they had no record of any prior communications with me. That said, they did also say that they were going to source a replacement part and have that shipped to me.

So:
Would I buy a Korum product again. ABSOLUTELY!! Without hesitation
Would I buy from TackleUK again. Yeah.........but I wouldn't use a Mac to do so!

Incidentally in my original thread where I asked for opinions on this chair I later posted my own mini review where I stated a couple of problems I had encountered with it namely the time it takes to set it up, the fact that non korum rod rest heads didn't seem to work properly with the telescopic feeder arm, and that the feeder arm wasn't that rigid. Well I'd like to now make some corrections to that:

Set Up Time:
The first time I set the chair up it did take me quite a while to work out what all the knobs, wheels, levers, clips etc did and to be fair I think the chair would have benefited from a simple user guide. The second time I set the chair up I did it in half the time. The third time, half as quick again. I can now set it up in under a minute. Part of the reason why it was taking me so long before was because I was attaching the accessories to the legs underneath the seat's main frame - in other words I had the legs extended to full height. I now realise that, although you can do this, if you lower the legs by 3" you can then attach the accessories to the tops of the legs without having to take the legs off and with some accessories it is easier to then leave them permanently attached.

Telescopic Feeder Arm:
My original criticism of this was that my rod rest head, when tightened, faced entirely the wrong direction and that unlike a normal rod rest the Korum one had a flat side which meant you couldnt rotate it around. I was then looking through the Korum catalogue and noticed that many of their rod rest heads came with little nuts that you could tighten seperately which would mean they would work with the feeder arm. I then noticed that you could buy these nuts seperately. It was at this point I realised my mistake. One of these nuts had been supplied with the feeder arm but in my rush to build it I thought it was a washer and so was using it in entirely the wrong place! Needless to say I now can use my rod rest head perfectly with the telescopic feeder arm. My other crticism of the feeder arm was one of stability. With the arm now correctly set up the arm is a little more secure and although it still bounces around a bit and will do so if you move about in the seat too much it's a perfectly usable platform. If however you really need a proper secure platform than it sounds like the tripod feeder arm is the one you want.

So all in all this is a really great chair!
