It's a bit late now, but I believe Shimano do a fantastic servicing job that doesn't cost the earth, it may well be worth while talking to them about your old reel and getting it fixed

I've just sent one of my other reels to them for servicing. This was another of my reels that had been in my loft for ten years and had used it recently several times without any problems but then noticed that when under strain it was starting to 'squeek'. So on Tuesday I packed it off to them and today I got a phone call saying that they had stripped it all down and and found that the bearings just needed a bit of grease but said that, as a matter or course, they'd replace the washers on the rear drag. Cost?

BARGIN!! Especially as this reel cost me something like £120 when I bought it.

So many thanks for giving me their name as I had no idea where to send reels for servicing and at that price and their speedy turnaround times I'm gonna send my other Shimano reels to them to service too.
