Completely new to fishing - Need some help

As the title suggests, I am completely new to fishing. I hope to be doing some freshwater fishing around Loch Lomond possibly next year.If someone could go to the bother of explaining the main types of fishing that I could be doing in Loch Lomond that would be great - I will be staying clear from the fly fishing just now until I get to grips with the basics. I will also need to buy a tackle - preferably for all round fishing and big enough for the odd pike that I may catch .

Cheers

Re: Completely new to fishing - Need some help

Never fished it but sure its got the usual white fish in it

Is there a tackle shop there ? A angling Club ? Its a big water so speaking to the tackle shop will help find were the fish are, and also if theres an angling club to join this will help your fishing.

A good idea and a great way to learn is just watch other anglers and see what tackle they are using - i.e floats, line, bait, rod, reels, ect althought the tackle shop will help you ( remember to stick to your buget as the tackle shop will always sell you more ).

Pike are big fish and need tackle for this so a float rod will not do .

Sorry this is not much help but if you have any more question please ask and looking forward to you wetting your line

Re: Completely new to fishing - Need some help

well Loch Lomond is a huge loch if u know any local tackle dealer ask for tips and tackle to buy for pike is some wire traces for a pike has extremely sharp teeth a strong rod , decent line is also useful but i would recommend going for the trout for this you can can use worm , maggot and fly but you are holding back on it

Good Luck

Tight Lines

Re: Completely new to fishing - Need some help

hello mate
i think you are brave to start on such a large exspanse of water, if you have only just started i would recommend finding a smaller lake, catch some fish, get your confidence then try the larger lakes. location is the key, then your ability. i dont wont to put you off fishing a large place but a few blanks could finish you off as larger places cam take ages to find the shoals

cheers Darrell

Re: Completely new to fishing - Need some help

If you are a complete beginer, it might be worth trying to get a local guide for the day, I personaly wouldn't try fishing a water as large as loch lomond without the help of local know how. I would use a 2- 2 1/2lb test curve rod for the pike but a float road for silver fish. There is bound to be a good tackle shop in Glasgow or Helensburgh, I would ask their advice.

hope this is of some help!
