Where Are the Bream?

As an ex match angler Bream were always the target fish as they showled up and you could amass a good weight very quickly. As a result of this I became very adept at catching them and enjoyed doing so. I now only pleasure fish and find my old haunts that have produced big bream in the past, are no longer doing so. I scan the local area match results and this seems to confirm a lack of bream being caught and no longer figures in the match winning weights. I wonder if this is a localised thing or a National problem? Are carp anglers catching big bream on baits meant for carp? Any thoughts please?

Re: Where Are the Bream?

I wish i could give some info of my area but I've only been bream fishing twice this year!! thats got me thinking, i must go more next year It's easy to let the carp bug take hold! My bream fishing is normally night sessions on the river Yare. I've had loads of skimmers to 2lb while carp fishing on lakes, i've had small skimmers take a 20mm Halibut pellet!! tight lines mate

Re: Where Are the Bream?

It maybe time to change tactics...Carp anglers put a lot of bait in and the bream love it...I carp fish and catch loads more bream than carp...Maybe a scaled down version to enjoy a bit of a scrap?

Re: Where Are the Bream?

Hi Paul

see my report "Doctors orders"

The bream seem to take any bait and size put in for carp, I caught mine using a 1.7slb TC barbel rod, a bit more fun that a 2.5 TC carp rod, wish I had gone lighter still to enjoy the bream.

Re: Where Are the Bream?

I think once a shoal moves in that purly the competition gets you a bream...and if your fishing bigger baits then surly you get the bigger bream?

Re: Where Are the Bream?

wayne,

I had 2 bream today, both about 5lb, 1 on an 8 mm pellet, 1 on a 20mm dumbell.

I think bream just grab what they can before the shoal gets it, regardless of size.

Re: Where Are the Bream?

I find you have to put loads of bait in to feed off the bream when carp fishing,it does work but sometimes you can make it worse and have every bream in the lake in your swim! thats ok if they are big fish, but it's nearly always the smaller ones that take your bait.

maybe that is where I went wrong, I was using tea bag sized pva bags of pellets as it is cold and did not want to overfeed.
