Polaris Floats? A lake I fish which has a good head of Carp and Tench is pretty deep yet the fish in it respond better to simple float rigs compared to fancy helicopter rigs/semi fixed rigs etc and don't like anything too heavy as they just spit the hook out as soon as they feel any weight or resistance. If I can tempt the fish in 'close' (about the reach of a 4BB waggler) than it's about 7-8ft deep further than that and it just gets too deep to float fish. Therefore I'm thinking about possibly buying some Polaris floats but wondered if they were any good and if they would be suitable considering that anything above 1/2oz bomb seems to be too much for these carp? Anyone used them?

Re: Polaris Floats? If the depth is problem, what about fishing the Slider method with the float. I have not used the polaris my self but have been told they are very effective. __________________ "The muscles of 20 men, and the brains of 20 mussels",

Re: Polaris Floats? polaris floats are very good,i recommend them, you need to use sufficient lead to give you a tight-ish line to cock the float,i have always used it for feeder fishing but i think they do a smaller version for use with the bomb

Re: Polaris Floats? They are good but you can just set the depth with a sliding knot and fish a larger bodied float at distance! I use Puddle chuckers like these ![]() and a sliding knot!

Re: Polaris Floats? Cool, I think I'll order a couple and give them a try. I like the idea of using them over a sliding float because a) I don't know how to tie a sliding knot ;) b) it's just a simpler set-up.

Re: Polaris Floats? As others have said, a good slider will do the same job as a Polaris. Having said that, Polaris floats work OK - I have a large stock, having won them some years ago cos AT were giving bundles of Polaris away for "letter of the week" (I haven't BOUGHT a float for many years - I make, find or win all mine instead) There is one major problem with Polaris - if you hook a decent fish (like big tench or carp) and the float gets caught in a weed bed so that the line slides through the float when the fish runs, the tension on the line cuts a groove in the soft plastic tube you have to thread it through. The next time you cast the line jams in the groove when the float tries to rise. I've had to throw two or three Polaris floats away because of that. However, easy come easy go - I shall not buy replacements as I still have plenty. __________________ Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond
