perch

For weeks I have been trying to catch a perch over 1lb 4oz.....I fished a good perch swim on the Hampshire Avon where I caught plenty of the beggers but no big ones.

Today I nearly manage my goal but only nearly, I was 3oz off.

I've tried caster, worm, luncheon meat......even baited a swim up with hemp and maggots to get the small stuff feeding, to see if a good size perch would be showing his fin for a tiddler hunt.

This is driving me round the bend, maybe I need to choose different events but where?

Re: perch

Is the water suitable for spinning? Might get you some bigger fish if you try. Also, minnows live or dead are supposed to be good for bigger perch.

As Pross said, spinning can be very productive. All so try fishing with chopped worm, Get the worm hard on the deckuse a bait dropper, then fish over the worm with a red worm, that can produce some good perch as well.

Re: perch

Small live bait up to about 3"-4" are good for large Perch or you could try something like this:

Just don't forget, if there is a chance of catching a Pike you must use a wire trace!

Re: perch

I have only ever caught 1 perch spinning..and it was my pb..I had no scales so i couldnt weigh it but it was twice the size of my previous pb..funnily enough it's the first perch to come out of that lake for a lot of years..i used one of those little mepps spinners..it doesnt matter if the waters cloudy they follow the vibration..

Ps if anyone would like to hazzard a guess on weight that would be nice...btw i'm 33ft tall and 180 st...lol

Re: perch

Thanks for the advice guys.....will give spinning a try methink at my local river....I know Richard, wire trace as the river holds good size pike too.

Steve, I might try your tactic at GV on saturday, as the lake holds good size perch too.

Wayne stop showing off lol, you only 5'8ft and about 12-13st (ok ok I know---------> exit)lol

I guess about 1lb 1-3oz comparing it with my perch, about the same size. What do you think?
