| how to canal fishing Well not fished there myself but when fishing the Sharpness Canal I find hemp seed as loose feed a massive boost to my catches along side maggots as a main bait. You can boil your own or you can get some from your local tackle shop. I just feed about a table spoon every few minutes and I fish the pole so I lift the rig up about 4 foot and let it settle at the same time . Doing this every say 5 mins you soon get fish into your peg and as hemp is such a good feed it tends to bring better fish on to the feed. Just a side not you may have to fish light . I normally only fish 1.5lb hook length and 20 hook size as you can still play fish upto 4lb with out much trouble you just have to take your time with the bigger fish. One thing with canal is the will have ledges where the depth changes and the best 10 mins you can ever spend is to plumb the depth of your peg to find them as this is were the better fish patrol This might help Plumbing your depth Hope this helps in some way __________________ Richard|Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports |

| Re: need help with canal fishing One of the biggest tips that i can give you with Canal fishing is stealth. Being quiet and unseen will boost your catches no end. I fish my local Canal regularly but i never take my seatbox with me. I always sit on a insulated mat. The fish cannot see you if you are low down on the bankside. This might seem a bit out of the ordinary but it really works. Every sound you make is transmitted through the swim and because you are fishing quite close to you you can easily spook fish that are already very wary creatures. Light tackle is a must. Small hooks and low diameter lines will dramatically increase bites. I always use double Pinky as hook bait. I loose feed squatt. Bread punch is also very good. A little bit of grounbait mixed to cloud the water will always bring more fish into your swim but dont over do it. |

| Re: need help with canal fishing Hi like Richard says always send 1/2 hour working out the depths so you know what you are fishing Look for any ledges or deep holes but if you feed up 3 areas like the Margin , Mid water , and Far Bank then you want go far wrong and it gives you options to try... Depends on what fish you are after on how you fish it , but a few ways would be.... Chopped worm and caster close in can bring in many bigger fish Bread punch with some bread Groundbait Also very good for better quaillty Roach squatt and Pinkys very good if going for Bream or Skimmers And I would lose feed Hemp and Casters on the far bank and fish with a caster or Pellet with a Pole or Feeder Maybe Have Fun working it out Justin |
