Cant choose what tackel to buy ???

Hi everybody, I hope you are all doing well with the fishing this summer.
Please can someone give me some infomation on what gear to buy as i need to buy some coarse fishing tackle to build up my gear. I fish with a rod & reel and i need Line for the hook length, some barbless hooks for catching roach, perch, bream, Carp, and Tench. I would also like to try fishing with pellets and floats. My boy is just as keen as i am to get stuck in and we would be really greatful if you could help.
Many Thanks
Dave

Re: Cant choose what tackel to buy ???

Hooks for roach bream and tench....I'd get sizes 18-12.....hook size depends on your bait and what kind of fish you after, for carp I'd go for anything between 14-10 again depending on bait and what size carp you going for.
You should always match your hook to the size of your bait.

Hook length line.....should always be 'at least' one lb breaking strain less than your mainline, fluro carbon is good as it is almost invisible under water.

Pellets can be fished different ways...on a hair rig, pellet bands, or you get soft hook pellets.

Float fishing line....I use Drennan float fish line anything between 2lb-6lb, again depending what fish you targeting.

Roach, Rudd, Perch I use 2lb breaking strain.......Tench, carp I use anything between 4-6lb, depending on the size of fish at the venue.

I think it also depends on how experience you are in fishing......some good anglers can land big fish on light line but if beginner I would recommend slightly heavier line (for carp and tench)...to learn how to play and land the fish without break offs.
Warning though.....Do not bully the fish in because using heavier line, still play it as if you were using lighter line, it will help you later if you want to change to lighter line.

There are some great anglers here and no doubt they will be around to help you withmore advice.

Re: Cant choose what tackel to buy ???

Hi Claudia,
Thanks for your reply. The advice you have given me is really good and will be put to good use. I was invited to fish at a syndicate pond on Sat and it was an amazing place. there are fish there from small roach and perch to big bream and carp i think up to 18lb. When i get some more gear i'm going to have another go. So thanks again, wish me luck.
P.S. if there is anything eles you can think of please can you let me know.

Tight lines
Dave
