Telescopic Rod

Im looking for a good quality telescopic rod about 10ft for to put in a suitcase for freshwater/spining, most of them look cheap and flimsy. Can anyone guide me to a decent one for around 30 quid?

Re: Telescopic Rod

I have a Shalespeare which is about 7 feet, it was about £14.99 if I remeber, its handled some decent fish, chub to just over 3lb, a 6lbish wild carp. I think the range covers what you want.
I think that you need to work out what kind of fishing you want to do with it, there are some decent looking teematch rods, and also carp rods, due to tele rods being onpice contruction theres no such thing as interchangeable tips on them.
Bennets have some a range, try www.spotfish.co.uk, a mainly fly fishing firm but they do or did some tele spinning rods.
I'd pop into you local tackle shop, the boss should have a range of suppliers catalogues.
Good Luck

"Cheap and flimsy" sums most of them up.

There is one major disadvantage to tele rods - ring spacing - by their very nature the rings are all about the same distance apart, which means the distance between the tip ring and the next one down is too great - making it less efficient for casting, striking, and playing a fish.

Bite the bullet and buy a multi-piece travel rod.

I used teles for travel abroad when there was nothing else.

As soon as decent multi-piece travel rods became available my teles went in the bin.

Look at the Shimano Exage TEXS 240/270MH for light/med spinning (just under 9 feet) which you should be able to buy at £50 or less - a little bit over your budget, but IMHO well worth the extra.

Have taken decent snapper, Spanish mackerel, barramundi and barracuda on it.

Re: Telescopic Rod

With a little bit of thinking, thats all I'm capable of!! I think Vagabond is right, its a pain having poor ring spacing, and you get what you pay for, in most cases.

Thumbs up Re: Telescopic Rod

Veals of Bristol also do the very highly rated Doctor Mike Ladle 4 sure spin. It's a four peice travel rod that comes with it's own sturdy case. I,ve had one for a couple of years now & can't fault it.
