how do you know what you want to catch?

just wondering after looking at some of the posts on here as folks seem to be into looking to get specific fish , any fish would be good at the moment as i have just started and not got alot of different floats and other tackle.
what are the basic things i need to be taking along with me if i am doing a bit of course fishing apart from a rod and reel lol i spose i am just looking for tips on a good all rounder stock to have in my tackle box.

Re: how do you know what you want to catch?

It's a mine field out there when it comes to tackle.......it really depends on what kind of fishing you want to do.

You can fish the float, ledger, feeders only to name a couple.

Again, what kind of fish you want to target .......I find the best way for a beginner would be a small lake, pond or a canal, where you can catch loads of different species.

Try float fishing and ledgering too...it gives you an idea which fish feeds in what level of depth, experiment with bait to find out what fish prefers what bait etc.

It's all a learning process.....it's not just about catching but also how to catch.

Your local tackle shop might be helpful with advice but be careful, lot of times they try to flog you tackle you won't need
