| Re: Fishing rivers for the first time Hi Smith43 It all depends on what you want to catch?......What size hook do you use? try to use a bait dropper to lay a bed of bait instead of a open end feeder.....hemp and caster for example.....use bigger hook baits, pellets for example or worms. Again, it depends on what kind of fish you want to catch. Problem with maggots is that they do attract smaller fish but still good baits for the bigger ones, once you got past the tiddlers. __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: Fishing rivers for the first time Yes very ture want Claudia is saying Many ways you can fish rivers depending on what fish you are targeting I would start of fishing 3 lines so you have a few choices thoughout the days fishing plus Differnt fish will be in the differnt aeras ect On the Thames maybe fish very close in the margins which can be very good for large Perch using chopped worm and Casters with Worm on the hook Try about Middle way for all fish and maybe far bank.. Just try to look for somethink to fish to and wear the water flow slows down ect can be good u want bigger fish sometimes you have to move around a bit and fish a few swims plus fish the swim you find hard it get a bait in and look for trees in the water ect. But if you are being attacked by smaller fish then try fishing closer in and mid way to start with then put about 6 balls of groundbait in on far bank and wait to see if any signs of fish moving in plus you could every ten mins or so fire out some Hemp and Casters. Then fish with a maggot feeder over the top or just a lead but you must keep feeding the same spots all the time which will over a time feed of the smaller fish. What fish are you after and how are you fishing with your feeder methods Good luck anyway as the thames is a great place to fish Justin |
