| Our charity fishing match at Snetterton Mike and I attended a carp charity match at Snetterton in Norfolk. A quick explanation about the match. James, son of Richard and Di, brother of Mike, was a 17 yrs old lad who lived for fishing, he was a diabetic , who sadly drowned at the lake six years ago, 5 weeks before his 18th birtday. Here a pic of James family ![]() We arrived around 9am sat morning, everybody else has arrived the evening before, as the people attended came from all different corners of the UK. Soon after introduction to people we haven’t met, we had a look around the 12 acre lake to pick a swim. Some of the swims were so muddy and flooded due to all the rain fall they had in the morning, that it was impossible to pitch there. Mike picked a swim next to Craig and Thrush, while I decided to pitch with Richard, as he had a double swim. Mikes swim ![]() We had plenty of time to get the bivvies up and to set up, as the match started at midday until 6pam, 2 hours break for a BBQ, then carry on the match until Sunday 2pm. Richard and my swim ![]() ![]() Weather conditions were very moody, brightest sunshine one minute, rain the other, which made fishing a little hard. My set up on my rods were….15lb mainline (was needed due to the huge amount of weed)….8lb hook link on a hair, bait varied from 10-14 mm different flavoured boilies and pellets, pop ups, artificial sweet corn, maize and tiger nuts. My left rod I cast about 30 yards into a gravel patch to the left, on a 14 mm crab and squid boilie, with a PVA bag filled with a dozen freebies. My right hand rod I set up with a 12mm pop up pellet topped with a 12mm hallibut pellet, again with a PVA bag filled with hallibut pellets as freebees. Forgot to mention that both spots were kindly baited up for me with a spod by Richard. Well, to cut a long story short, I BLANKED!!!! No matter what I tried, I didn’t have as much as a nibble. *cry* Mike and the guys who were fishing the other side of the lake seem to have hit tench city………Mike landed 6 tench, and one dropped of from the net. Lucky him, he even best his PB tench,, here a pic of his PB tench of 7lb ![]() Some of the other guys also had a bag full of tench and got fed up with it lol as they all tried to catch a carp…ANY carp lol James managed to tempt a clonker of a carp 5.40am Sunday morning, the only carp caught in the match James and his new PB carp 30lb 8oz (Please quote, that carp was caught on MY bait, blue artificial pop up sweet corn J) ![]() I don’t want to bore you with all the small details of everything that went on….all I can say is, that we had a fantastic time, great laugh, made a few new friend and most of all raised money for the air ambulance, as they relay pourly on charity and don’t get any government funds. I will leave you with a few more pics from the event ![]() ![]() ![]() He trophy for the winner ![]() The plaque with gets presented to the winner , he gets to keep it for a year, has his name engraved and has to hand it over to next years winner. ![]() Not sure yet how much money we have raised, as a auction (stuff people donated) is still going on for another week. It doesn't really matter though I guess, as every penny counts (",) __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: Our charity fishing match at Snetterton Nice report Claudia. I enjoyed the match, I had picked a swim in a little cove and it was a challenge for me to practise the art of "clipping up" as taught to me so kindly by Baitmaster when we were in France. He must have taught me well as I managed to fish to the gaps in the trees without landing in them, this trick of clipping up certainly allowed me to land in the same clear patch amongst all the weed reproducibly and was responsible for me catching some very nice Tench. ![]() X marks the spot I was fishing, which normally I would ignore as I know I would just have tackle dangling from the surrounding trees!! A long drive but well worth it as it was all in a good cause and I got a PB which can't be bad. |
