Thumbs up RE-HOW DO I BAIT A SWIM part two

Hi there to all,
A couple of weeks ago I asked what was a good approach to pre baiting a pond near to where I was staying at a caravan park in west Wales. Well i'm back from my hols and what a week for rain. heh!

I had some good feed back from a few of you and I took this advice on board.
First I went to the pond chose two swims that I thought looked fishy and threw in some sweet corn and a bit of Hemp seed. The next morning did the same thing. That evening went back down there with my rods tackel and plenty of ambition. This time I was going to catch some fish no matter what size?
I set up all my gear threw out a taster of sweetcorn and hemp seed. I used a open ended feeder on 1 rod with Betain ground bait and red maggots with a size 18 hook and a maggot. The 2nd rod I used a x2 AAA waggler with a size 16 hook with sweet corn as hook bait. In no time at all I was catching roach one after the other sizing up to about 12ish ounces. The tactics paid off. A good days fishing.

Down there again the next day for a repeat performance and I must of caught about 25 roach all in really good condition.

Unfortunately I did'nt catch any other breed of fish cos I found out about a years ago a couple of otters cleaned out the pond of common carp, crusians, silver fish, rud and tench which is a real shame but hey, I had a good time anyway thanks too all you good people for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks again
Dave

It sounds like you had a good time fishing anyway stalker which is what its all about, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!

As a method of baiting a swim I seldom use pre-packaged groundbait, but tend to stick with traditional feed such as you have mentioned, hemp. Help is a very potent and oily seed anyway so it makes for an excellent swim bait.

In my time, I have spent many a good fishing trip in Wales, including the west, and often on caravan sites. May I ask, what is the name of the place you stayed?

Glad to have helped Dave! Sounds like you had a good time, shame about the otters but thats nature for you! It is good to get feedback as well. Knowing that your advice has helped some one else to catch is always a welcome feeling! At least you know the tactics worked and now you can try it nearer to home.
