How Do I Bait A New Swim

Hi there everyone,
I'm going to West Wales for my hols next week to a caravan park where there is a pond about half an acre with a small island. I have fished this venue before but never caught more than a couple of roach. This water is very rarely fished and i was wondering if someone could give me some advice on how i can get the fish feeding and what ground baits i can use. The types are fish in there are roach carp rud and tench.

Thanks for reading. Hope someone can help???

Re: How Do I Bait A New Swim

seeing that the water is not fished much i don't think you will need to feed a great deal,if it is indeed fished rarely i would be inclined to introduce them to sweetcorn,
a couple of handfuls morning , noon and night for the first couple of days should get them used to it and fish it on the third day may well prove productive,
thats what i would do anyway mate,
whatever you try best of luck mate and i hope you enjoy your holiday

Red face Re: How Do I Bait A New Swim

Yeah I'll go with that. Also just "dribble" feed when you're fishing just so you don't over feed the swim.

Re: How Do I Bait A New Swim

the sweetcorn sounds like good advice as it is pretty much an "instant bait", for tench and carp.

take some redworm and lobs also as they are a "quick" bait in the same way and the resident fish will have come across them naturally. just chop 6 lobs into 1" peices and place them at the bottom of the near shelf or any gravel bars you can find. you can then float fish or ledger half or whole worms over the top, topping up the feed after every fish you catch.

good luck

You sound such a bitter angler when you have a Gin in you .

All Sounds good to me (apart from Gully's input ). You could also try red maggot and Hemp. Just as Paul said , morning, noon and night. Then fish over it another day!

Thumbs up Re: How Do I Bait A New Swim

Yep, totally agree. If you're there for a few days, choose a couple of fish holding features, i.e. an island, sandbar or overhanging tree & bait up with Sweetcorn, Hemp & maybe some caster for a couple of days before even trying to fish it. Then give it a go at dawn or last light in the evening. Good luck.
