Re: Open space lake in somerset I'm don't know somerset very well, I'm just inside the wilts border, but Longleat lakes might be a good place to try. The lower lake would be good for a beginer, theres plenty of fish, roach, skimmers, carp, the odd tench. THe lake is open banked and there is plenty of casting room. Also, and this might be usefuk for a nine year old, there are cafes, ice cream parlours, toilets. My thinking is that to get your son hooked, he should enjoy the day. Well good luck

Re: Open space lake in somerset hey there stig although i have never fished this venue it seems an easy water which to me would be ideal for a youngster to become hooked (pardon the pun) on the sport! http://www.bullockfarm.co.uk/index.htm let us know how you get on! __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!

Re: Open space lake in somerset Thanks Chaps I had considered longleat, but I feel that is a bit of a rip off at £5 per spectator. Checked out Bulloch Farm, that looks brilliant. Contacted them and Rushcombe lake within their complex was reccommended. Only 1/2 an hour from home. Won't be able to go until the 26th as he gets a new rod and reel for his birthday on the 23rd.

Re: Open space lake in somerset Sorry, did not now about the £5 for being a spectator. That is, I think out of order. They must see only £ signs and not the future. There is a book with the title 'Where to fish in the South West'. Good luck

Re: Open space lake in somerset Is north east somerset not in your range, Warminster angloing club have an open lake in a place called Berkley, very open, lots of roach, rudd and carp. Easy to catch lots of the smaller ones, there are some bigger ones, but they tend to hide behind the island. Its costs about £35 a season tho.

Re: Open space lake in somerset Hi Stig, If you're anywhere near Somerton, Viaduct Fishery is stacked full of fish. It gets busy at weekends though so is a better bet for a youngster during the week. I'm not sure if there's any charge for a Dad with his son. If you're anywhere near the Devon border then there's another nice fishery at Sampford Peverell just off the dual carriageway to Tiverton. Hope this helps. __________________ Rich "If a thing's worth doing it's worth doing to excess!"
