Question Lure hook guards

Hi All
I recently watched a John Wilson film on Discovery TV using lures with Hook Guards.
Can any one tell me about them? How they work? I know their advantages but do they have any disadvantages?
Also where can I buy them?
Regards to All David

Re: Lure hook guards

Thanks Kevin
Any ideas where to get them in the UK? The US company you listed doesn’t seem to export.
Tried email to Angling Times. They were not at all helpful and gave incorrect info.
Tight lines
-they are even tighter without hook guards-

Re: Lure hook guards

Weedguards are Almost mandatory when fishing for Largemouth Bass, because they LOVE to hide in the salad. The only drawback to weedguards, sometimes they prevent smaller fish from getting hooked(some don't consider that a drawback )
See some of this stuff, I think you might be especially interested in the 2nd "Bass Pro" item..

Could you add a soft plastic(jelly worm 2 u?)trailer Texas rigged? see: http://216.109.125.130/search/cache?...icp=1&.intl=us

It took me a bit to find this...Its a soft plastic piece to add to the shank. Maybe you could use a piece of a "jelly" worm, if you couldn't find these? See : http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/st...10000_100-10-7

Are you wanting to modify your own hooks or add new ones?

Re: Lure hook guards

Hi Nelson
Thanks for your help.
From the pics I should be able to make some if only for single hooks.
Seem very little info in the UK on these. Most people have never heard of them
To have them sent from the US your suppliers want 20% of item cost for p&p!!
And our tax man 17.5% VAT and I’m sure some one else will want their cut.
Tight lines – Might not be the right thing to say in view of the subject-Lets say Good Fishing, David
