feed pellet - expandas

Bait advice please.

Why would you feed normal feed pellets but use an expanda on the hook????

Now I understand that the expanda is the softer hookable pellet and at this time of year its lower oil/ingredients content is more suitable - its the feeding of the normal pellets I can't get my head around.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I would like it explained please.

Cheers

Re: feed pellet - expandas

mmnn... dunno for sure being a sea angler

but the pelleted food based on trout pellets came in many sizes , either sinkers, slow sinkers or floaters(these were the expanded ones)

i would think that useing a floater would counteract the weight of the hook
so as they all sink at more or less the same rate, or posibly a floater would pop up slightly off the bottom makeing it more noticeable.

Re: feed pellet - expandas

Hi gadders75, The reason i feed normal pellet with the expanders is so that i can attract the fish, Little and offten, also normal pellet from a pet shop is no more than 80pence per kilo, and is alot cheaper than buying them from a tackle shop. Mind you i do try and buy slow sinking when fishing like this. I feel that the expanders are good for the hook because they are softer and you don't have muck around with bait bands.

Re: feed pellet - expandas

Ok heres the deal,

I subscribed to the Match Fishing monthly mag and I got a bait selection with my sub.

I have a pack of 6mm Carp Pellets and a pack of 4mm Carp Expandas that I am going to use in a few weeks time.

Now, the expandas will expand to a similar size as the feed pellets once I have run them through my pump and will become soft to hook - so thats all cool at the moment I have that bit sussed.

My concern is about feeding the feed pellets which will have a higher protein/fat/oil content than the expanda.

1 - Will the fish still feed off both?
2 - Would it not be wise to feed expandas of a smaller size and use a larger expanda as hook bait?
3 - Would the feed pellets not damage the swim - in the knowledge that the fish at this time of year may not actualy want bait of this type of food offered to them.
4 - Are the feed pellets totallly used as an attratctor rather than feed?

Cheers

1. If you are feeding for carp, then yes they will feed on both. saying that so will the other fish.
2. if you use expanders as feed you will most proberly draw the fish away from your swim as they will float and be drawn away by the tow of the water.
3. If the venue you are fishing is used to the pellet you should be fine. If you start of slowly by feeding no more than 6 -10 pellets at a time { Every 30 secs} and if the fish move in you can slowly step up the feed.
4. No pellets are feed and if you put to much in you will over feed them. Start feeding slowly but keep it regular, and you will attract the fish.

Re: feed pellet - expandas

we used to get our supply from these guys;-
http://www.bocmpauls.co.uk/bocmpauls...homepage.jhtml
but that was for our fish farm and was ordered by the ton.
it might be worth buying in bulk if their products suit and you can use 25kilo.
( the oils do dry out if kept opened for any lenght of time.)

imho, yep, if not scoffed they will sit on the bottom and rot, just like over fed boilies, which is why i believe boilies are banned on some waters.
just check for info on the conditions on the sea bed under salmon cages.
i'll look for a link
