Re: species hunt 2011 (Suggestions for a new list...)

Impressive lists Ian. Despite the well known saying, I never knew there were that many fish in the sea!

I agree, there are some frustraiting ommisions to the hunt list (I caught a goldsinny wrasse a few weeks back and posted it up thinking it was more points!) but I do fear that if we adopt the comprehensive list then the possibility of mis-identification of species becomes not only greater, but inevetable.

Unless you have the same encyclopedic knowledge about the different species that Vagabond has (And I haven't yet spoken to a single person who has) then you leave yourself open to either missing out on points you should have or mistakenly claiming ones you shouldn't. That in turn could lead to arguments amonst members and kind of misses the whole point of the species hunt; A bit of fun and a method of generating a few more reports for the site. That's not to mention the extra workload for those that run the hunt, adding all the extra fish. (If they were even caught by members! Stone loach anybody?)

In short, I agree that a few obvious additions to list would be a good idea, but think it might be going a touch far to put everything on the list.

Totally agree Baggie. I should really have said that these lists are just food for thought. As with your Goldsinny, theres a fair few more species that are relatively common / obtainable, with a little effort. Can forum members take a look at Vagabonds lists & come up with a few suggestions as to what they thing should be included.

Re: species hunt 2011 (Suggestions for a new list...)

I think rather than add shed loads - as in baggies case why not add a species once a verified specimen has been caught ?

I'll sit down & take a look mate. I'm sure we can find a few interesting additions. We can also add more unusual species as people catch them for the Forum record lists...
