This is great fun !

Being late entries, we are fishing flat out to catch up with the rest of you.

Friday I went to a small stream to collect a dace. Hordes of minnows, and where it normally takes 5 minutes to find a dace - took two hours (and lots of minnows) before I finally caught the smallest dace of my life - no matter, macro lens focussed onto the little chap and another 1.5 points in the bag.

This morning it was low tide at Beachy Head, so under the cliffs to the rock pools we went. Garden cane, 3lb nylon mono and size 20 hooks. Target a mini-species or two such as sea-scorps and blennies.

Usually I do quite well at the mini-species, but not today - shore crabs and large prawns came to the bait (pin-sized bit of whelk) but no fish.

Luckily Certhia was on form, and wiped the floor with me - three sea scorps, a rock goby, and a surprise corkwing wrasse of over an ounce! Not only that, but a monster rockling about eight inches long took the bait but shed the hook. Pity about that, but ...next time!

Did some bird-watching on the way back, and had good views of a Greenish Warbler (that's its official name, not just its colour ) which is a rather uncommon passage migrant for Britain - usually seen in Eastern Europe.

A lovely sunny morning - summer in October. Great to be out

Re: This is great fun !

I thnk the nex 2 months cold see some interesting changes hapening near the top of the table as the late starters catch some of the winter fish that the leaders already have.
