Hybrids?

Are we allowing hybrids into the competition? As I caught a roach-bream hybrid the other day, and me and Richard weren't sure if it should be entered? I'm guessing all you sea anglers are gonna be saying no

Re: Hybrids?

Well, much as I hate to give anything away to the opposition, it's a good question.

After all, what's a poor cod but a hybrid of pouting and whiting. Can't think of any others off-hand, though.

Also, surely you'd be allowed a Ruff, and isn't that just a Perch hybrid?

I think we need a ruling from the main man here!! Richard?

Cheers,
JB.

Re: Hybrids?

Hmmm, the only hybrid I can relate to at the moment, is the new hybrid turbo I'm bolting on to my new engine going in my car....

Guess I'm going to have to widen my definitions somewhat. I remember catching odd looking roach/goldfish in a pond used as cooling water supply to a factory once. My Dad stocked them up years before I fished them and I used to get all kinds of weird looking fish.

I think in the sea, hybrids are petty rare, right?

Wink Re: Hybrids?

I believe the Ruffe is a true species of the Perch family.

Doh! Had failed to take account of the team situation.

You're right, though - if it's not in the book, then we shouldn't allow it (assuming it's a pretty comprehensive book of course!).

Richard's right, though, this is the most fun I've had in ages, as it makes one think about varying the normal tactics, and trying out lots of different techniques in each trip.

Cheers,
JB.
