Also, surely you'd be allowed a Ruff, and isn't that just a Perch hybrid?
Errrr , No to both questions - both Poor Cod (Triopterus minutus) and Ruffe (Gymnocephalus cernuus) are species in their own right.

The idea of a species hunt is an excellent one - I'll get my wife to register and we will play catchup

Very good point John-boy

Collins Pocket Guide to "Fish of Britain and Europe" is pretty comprehensive, and not too expensive - cost £12.99 in 1998, and still in print AFAIK. I would propose that as the basis for the "definitive list"

Because Certhia and I fish all over the world, I have a huge library of fish identification books, covering fish from the States, South Africa, the Caribbean, the tropical Pacific, Australia and New Zealand.

I would like to see the competition open to all fish, anywhere in the world, but there should also be a "British Isles waters only" category.

Any help with fish identification that I can give - just ask
