Word of Warning and a tale of Woe

Hi all,

My tale of Woe? Until yesterday, the last time I had put a line in the water due to health and transport issues was way way back in April. But yestreday was going to be the day!!

Thursday has been spent preparing and checking my rods and tackle. Friday dawned and it was going to be busy. Up at 7am, take the little one to school followed by a train journey to pick up a car that I has brought. YES! I now had a fishing wagon, my rods would fit in it with ease. With my lovely wife being a keen fisherwoman we visited the local tackle bait shop and decided to arm ourselves with rag, squid, mackie and the much needed tub of live and prestine sandeels. We were set to go.

A one hour drive, a quick ferry trip and we were there. A mile hike through gorse bushes, down a 45 degree rocky cliff face and we were there. Rames Head, in time to get set up while the tide starting flooding and the sun began its descent and hopefully the fish began to feed.

I can hear your thoughts, how the hell is this a tale of woe?

2 casts later and I slipped, putting out my hand to steady myself a shard of rock managed to get between my wedding ring and my finger. It tilted the ring, wrenching one side and forcing the other side to cut deep into my finger. The next 25 minutes was spent stopping the bleeding and trying to get the bent ring over the flap of skin on my finger before the swelling made it impossible. This signalled the end of the session.

My words of warning? It you wear a ring and are going onto the rocks, please make sure you stick a plaster of something like it over the ring. I was lucky. :eusa_thin

Having looked at the cut in the light of the morning, its now time to go and get it stitched up.

I wish tackle shops would get up to speed with the internet, they really do not seem to appreciate when somebody is not local or not clued up as to their opening times....just rang a shop to see if their voice mail would advise on opening times.........ring ring.....its stupid, not on a web site either... am I too unreasonable or are most angling stores technophobic?
The ammount of anglers on line seeking advice etc....omg
Gonna go and get a pintbeer1 and calm down!!!:icon_jook

This morning I decided to go out onto some favourite rocks of mine and do some spinning, not a soul in sight, so spinning away happily perched upon my rock.......see these two figures suddenly appear over the horizon, one of which decides to come and stand right next to me, we exchange some banter as you do, but after that he didn't move off and give me some space, he just continued spinning beside me, man! 0530 in the morning, you think you would be safe from loonies that time of the day wouldn't you?angry

Needless to say I ended up moving off, off home! :icon_wink

bought a couple of spinning reels recently and both are bearing the same problem, go to initially use the damn things and both lock up, took one back to the dealer and he seemed to have cured it for about two sessions and the problem reoccurred.
bloody annoying when of course your just about to begin a session that looks ideal, however i asked what the problem was to the tackle dealer and he replied "well i stripped it and reassembled it and it works fine now?" He didn,t know!

Stripped the reel down today and went as far as gearing and couldnt believe the corrison inside the gearing mechanism, not that this was the problem for it locking up unexpectantly, it was as simple as taking the reel housing off and loosening the nut on top of the bottom section, which is stopped by getting tighter purely by some mickey mouse selftapper, once loosened off, the fixed reel worked perfectly, wondered if anybody else had encountered the same type of problem both reels cost approx just over £30 squid.
