| Sex Pistols gig last night at Brixton Academy This is for Dave and any other fans on the forum. Well, now my life is complete. I've now seen one of the most influential bands of the last 40 years. It's easy to see why they stirred things up in the 70's! It was probably the best gig I've been to and I've been to a few! The atmosphere was electric and the pace of the gig was breathtaking, although I was knackered at the end. I was right at the front and it was a bit argy-bargy from start to finish. The place was rammed and you couldn't move an inch either way. I have to say there was a few younger fans but in the main, the crowd was late 30's upwards. It was quite amusing seeing guys in their 40's and 50's with mohicans! Steve, Paul and Glen were superb, locked in tight together and I don't think I heard a bum note played all night. Steve's guitar sounded heavy, he played his Les Paul through a Marshall JCM900 stack. Johnny was well..Johnny. Very funny and animated, but boy did he sing with venom and anger. He spat out the lyrics just as he did in '77 and if you closed your eyes you could've been there. Song-wise, they started with Pretty Vacant and played every song from the Bollocks album along with Stepping Stone (by the Monkees) and No Fun (The Stooges). New York was a highlight for me, it rocked big time. The encore was of course, Anarchy In The UK and they left the stage with us wanting more, which is how it should be. The thing that struck me afterwards was these are guys in their early 50's but they would've kicked the arse of any band on that stage last night, young or old. It's all in the attitude and they haven't lost a bit of it. ![]() ![]() |
