Re: smutting again

unlucky kev
1 thing i would recomend is not using those "peelers"
they look like the softies from veitnam and have an overly creamy texture and are not true peelers because they are always soft and are an allien food to the fish here
i have never had any faith in them
just my views

Re: smutting again

Hi Kev,

As you know I spent 3 weeks in Burton Bradstock in June fishing every day morning and evening, and blanked each time. My only catch was when I went out on the boats and had Pouting and Doggies.

Believe it or not I am going back to the same place for another 3 weeks next Friday, and will, weather permitting, spend another 3 weeks every morning and evening doing the same thing. I am after the elusive Chesil Bass. I've done the same thing for the past 20 years and never caught one yet.

Keep at it.

Cheers

Drew

Flipping heck Drew.

Twice a day for 6 weeks a year for 20 years???

That's 1680 trips to the beach without a Chesil Bass!

Just think of the money sent on bait!!!!

That, my friend, is what's known as pure dedication. I take my hat off to you sir.

I hope you land a double figure specimen with your next cast mate.

Rich.

Cool Re: smutting again

I'm with Ben on the bait Kev...ditch it and use fresh UK Peelers or Frozen or even small 50p sized live shore crabs tipped with frozen peeler is better than foreign cr*p that just costs money and does not catch fish.

If you don't have any luck at that mark go and try another it may be that the hounds have moved on.

Good luck mate..

Re: smutting again

thanks for the advise on bait
the lad who put me on to the beach where he has been catching the smooth hounds also recommended the crabs .
they are swimmer crabs or velvets i think .
but i will try to locate some fresh peelers before the next time i go .
a point made by old smooth hound about them moved on i thought that myself while fishing the other night but with the lack of being able to get local info on smoothhounds and there movement so surly finding where they will be will be like looking for a needle in a hay stack if trying other beaches would i be moving to the next beach along or ten mile away ?
and also how long do they hang around for ? could i possibly have missed the run of smooth hounds again finding the info locally is proving hard as no one will either let on or do not know .

tightlines
kevin
