Re: congers I hooked into a conger by accident in about September last year. It was off Witches point in South Wales. I was fishing for Rays when this thing picked up my Mackerel / Rag cocktail. A sandy bottom so a conger was the last thing I expected. I managed to haul it in to the rocks and while my mate was scrambling down the rocks to assist, the thing looked me in the eye, gave one shake of its head and snapped my 30lb mono trace like it was cotton. I wouldnt like to estimate its weight but it was about as thick as my thigh and about 6ft long......massive. __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right.

i was fishing with four mates down chillton bown the back of the island one time we were fishing a comp i was using whole squid and a had a tiny little bite and i said to myself i will leave it to get better after ten mins i struck and my god what a battle this thing took 30 ish yards on a tight drag got to ground then i got it moving took more line then i started to get it moving the way i wanted it to it was a very slow dogged fight we all knew it was a eel my mate rob was in the water with my long handled gaff up to his waist he shouted that it was massive he was just about to gaff the eel when with one skake of its head it spat out a pout and was gone we were all gutted the pout weighed 1lb 8oz so i hate to think how big the eel was i have had eel to 40lb and rob said this was much bigger !!! need less to say i have been back to chillton many times since and i am still waiting for the monster john

Re: congers There are some monsters out there but they are getting less common. (like all species I think) Conger are not a species I target normally. Consequently I havnt caught that many. Loads of straps but other than that biggy I lost off Wiches Point only a 10lber off the Ranny beach. I expect the boats pick up a lot more in the channel which is something I might find out for myself this summer when I start venturing a little further in my motorised bath tub __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right.
