Re: congers !

What size are they mate

Need to know the ground you are fishing and the bait i.e whole fish or strips

Sounds a good mark - god I wish I lived by the sea again

Re: congers !

well richard we went down there fishing for whiting...caught a few then had a good rattle left it for a bit then all of a sudden my rod took off i jumped up ran over struck the rod and it was like hitting a brick wall!! after a great fight i managed to get the bugger to the surface only 15-20 pound got the trace in my hand and he spat out the whiting he had hold of and swam off had 2 more a little later one did the same thing...held on til we came to lift him then spat out the whiting the other one managed to get hooked up so we pulled him ashore got a couple pics on the mobile phone and released him all were around the same size but what a great fight!!
like i say it looks like they were hitting the hooked whiting and just holding on until we got them to the side...so i think if i went fishing for them again i would use whole live whiting they worked well tonight and they wasnt intended for anything!!

and i think the ground is mainly clean out there...we didnt have any snags all night and had 2 rods each out there

Re: congers !

That sounds great

No expert but go with whiting as you said , if you do not get them on dead ones then switch to live ones . With the dead ones try cutting their flanks threee times each side ( lets the smell out )

As a reserve whole cuttle fish

I would go for 100lb trace with good split rigs or swivels (no small stuff )

There must be some holes where you are fishing or a reef bar near that the conger hold up in daytime

Sounds as if the conger are in a feeding pattern and know the whiting feed there so your going to have a great time

Im sure there are loads of members who will chip in

Although all above you know just thought I would post it

Look forward to the pics

Re: congers !

great thanks richard its a nice spot loads of room and like i say im fairly sure at the distances we was fishing it is all sand..
but yes plenty of rocks around so they probably move out onto the sand at night hunting the pout and whiting..i think whiting will be the best bait because of the fact thats what i had 3 on tonight!! maybe even try the livebait rig that smoothie was on about for the cod? hmm.
anyway looks like i maybe going back there tomorrow night havent got a digi camera though or i would take some great pics for you all i got is my mobile phone and i couldnt get a decent picture in the dark with it tonight im off to look at ebay for a digi camera

Kremmin is on a distinguished road
Re: congers !

fish for eels 3 times a week and have found the best bait for average sized fish (5-15 lbs) is 2 whole squid on an 8/0 bronzed o'shaugnessy. how big are the whiting your catching?

do you use wire or mono hook length for your eels??
