yesterday i fished holyhead breakwater and as the tide was getting low on the inside , the water was about 4 foot deep i looked over the side and only to see a massive conger right up by the wall swimming around and eating some of the left over mackeral we had thrown in to attract fish. me and one of my mates both got large mackeral baits in with it then suddenly it grabbed my mates bait and started thrashing around after about 2 minutes of him trying to get it off the bottom it snapped his line, then i managed to get my bait really close to it when it took it i reeled it up really fast and managed too get its head out of the water , then i went down the steps to see if i could get it to the bottom step so my mate could grab it or somethoing(dont know what we would have done really lol) just as i got it really close it managed to bite through my line , i was really guted even though we wernt really geared up for conger fishing my hook lentgh was only 50 lb, so i was lucky to get it that far really. i was just wondering if it might stay around that part and if i could attract it because it was a massive fish (around 35-40lb). if it wouldnt be there any more any ideas on fishing around holyhead for conger and attracting big ones.

Re: do they stay in the same place? Hi JB22, Without being disrespectful, how would you like to walk about for the next few months with 2 hooks and mono line hanging from your mouth? I think the next time you try for a Conger use the proper tackle and at least have a landing net to land it with. I realise that you are only 14, but if you go fishing be prepared to act like an adult. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold

Re: do they stay in the same place? It should be still there. I believe they hang around the same spot until they are ready to breed! If it is there and you do catch it then you could remove your hooks and let it go! Smiles all round! Good luck.

Re: do they stay in the same place? wel i tried today , fished from low tide all the way up to high and no sign of it. me and 3 of my other mates decided to try a spot quite near there for any other congers within 2 minutes of dropping my bait in i brought a conger to the surface but it was only hanging on to the bottom of the bait. so when i got it onto one of the rocks it decided to let go and get back in the water before we could get to it. we are hoping to go fishing for mackeral tommorow so we can get enough bait again lol (went through quite a lot)so wel most probably be back at that spot in a few days .
