Re: do they stay in the same place?

Holyhead Breakwater is a very good conger mark and is very rocky as you may notice the odd crab/lobster pot on the sea ward side, conger do tend to stay in their homes or very near during daylight but in deep water or darkness will venture possiby 500 yards away in the search of food

RE, groundbaitin for conger.

In my experience, it just gives you a hell of a lot of unwanted attention from crabs!

Were you fishing the inside or out side wall ? Fished it for conger loads of times , plenty of them there , try a drop net for getting them up the wall

Re: do they stay in the same place?

Conger up to about 40lb tend to stake a territory. They are generally males.

Anything much over that weight are females, and roam about a lot.

A 40lb fish can be as long as 6 feet so if you are going to try and catch one from the shore, be very careful.

It has been known for a shore angler to be bringing in a 'local' only to have it bitten in half by a roaming 200lb+

If you do bring one in, you need at the very least a hefty pair of long handled pliers to disgorge it. Preferably you will have a 2ft+ T-bar for the job. Even a modest 15-20lber will be strong enough to break your arm, or worse, if it gets a hold.

If you do manage to get one this far, to send it back home you need to approach from above and behind and grab it by the gills (right by the pectoral fins) and heave it back into the water.

As I said in another thread, I am trying to organize a team night session on Brixham breakwater. If anyone is interested let me know
