thornies will take big King rag but from the boat i would reccomend fresh mackerel fillet every time .. sandeels work really well from the shore for ray species but try bluey or mackie fillet for the best chance .. cut off the whole fillet, cut this in half lengthways and hook it once about half inch in at the thinner end ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: First time Sea Fishing... Cut it lengthways and hook it at the tail end, got it thanks. A few of them caught Rays with ragworm tipped with squid like you said which was how I was fishing, luck of the draw I guess.

I was toying with the idea of getting rid of my boat and just using charter Boats instead, they can get out in rougher sea's then I, the only disadvantage I can go out at the drop of a hat, but will always be hampered by distance and weather. Only toying at Mo though! |

Re: First time Sea Fishing... The actual trip costs £35 (plus £5 for Rod hire) then the cost of any bait, we were fishing for 9 hours and £10 worth of bait (rag worm and squid) lasted us the whole trip. So I spent £50 in all.

Re: First time Sea Fishing... Not bad at all then, especially if you source your own bait next time....leaves some pennies for terminal tackle then! ![]()

Re: First time Sea Fishing... After the trip I thought about buying my own rod etc but the skipper of the boat said the rod/tackle we were using cost over £250. Some of the guys on the trip had their own rod/tackle etc but we out-caught them an the stuff didn't look nearly as good as ours, so i'm thinking that might be down to the tackle we hired as it definitely wasn't down to us. So basically I decided not to as an extra £5 per trip is a bargain in my view.
