Skjervoy Norway ????????????????

four of us are off to Norway end of april. Have booked a self drive boat for the week, opted for the Arvour for the time of year and comfort. Would like to know if anyone has been there or has any advice on the fishing marks? Have got some charts of the area and have looked for some underwater features shelfs mounds Ect. How far off these marks would you set up for a drift. i have read that its unusual to anchour up around the fjords as the fish are constantly on the move for the bait fish but does this mean more time skippering the boat than fishing?

Re: Skjervoy Norway ????????????????

the best way is to have electronic charts. as the fish are always on the move you need to first attract them to a spot then try and keep them there. I regually use an anchor in the fjords.( I seam to be the only one to do it in norway as it is not a common practice here, but what he hell I AM NOT NORWEGEN)the trick is ground baiting.I freeze all my off cuts from my catch in big plastic bags then when I go fishing I put the frozen off cutts in a net which I tie about five meters above my anchor .Then I would brop my anchor on a mark and often leave it there on a bouy while I go for some drift fishing come back an hour or two later and presto. If you do not have access to a anchor another trick is to grounbait by adding some rocks to the frozen ground bait. Here I tie the rocks to the spines off the cutt fish with some decomposable string with crushed offcuts and a bit of water added, then freeze. this will stop the frozen bait from breaking free from the stone before it has completly defrosted.this I will drop on a mark that i have marked on the gps.you can do a couple of these and drop them on different marks so that you can come back to each mark during the day and drift over them. Hope this helps.

Having fished with "the dog" on countless occasions and in all different parts of the world, I can safely say that any advise that anyone on this forum could possibly have to offer him would be a complete and utter waste of time, due to his limited fishing experience and knowledge.

Lucky for him I "sirjim" will also be joing him on yet another one of our extreme fishing expeditions and as always I will endeavour to try and pass on to him some of the skills I have picked up over the past 22 years.
