Re: cod I usually fish the south wales coast during the cod season but these comming weeks i too am looking for a change of venue on the north Devon or somerset coastline and wondered if anybody could recommend anywhere, it needs to have good acess as these days i am not as fleet of foot as i was in my younger days.

Re: cod I live in Clevedon right on the Bristol channel....Its not exactly fishing its head off but a steady supply of whiting are coming to any fish tipped baits...The cod have arrived in small numbers to around 2-3lb with the usual tale of a 20 pounder being pulled out somewhere. I tend to fish the Ladye Bay area (South of the Bridges) either the beach or the cliffs which are a short walk up the coast. Because of the indifferent ground I tend to use a solid leader, pulley pennel rig loaded up with Rag and Squid and an 8oz breakout lead. Macky, Lug and Crab are worth a shot too...

Thanks for that info Appleman we will definately give this area a try , we have also been told about a place just up the coast from where you mentioned called Battery point which we might also give a try, this is a low water mark apparently. I don't know what part of the tide you recomend at Ladye Bay as you don't mention tides? the baits you surgest are prety well standard i think except i dont use macky as it encourages very mischievious minni whitting to plague you stopping any chance of any sizable fish getting a look in.If it was possible we might try both spots over Christmas if we can escape the chores .. well one can dream can't one |

Re: cod I don't know what part of the tide you recomend at Ladye Bay as you don't mention tides? I usually fish a couple or three up and 1 or 2 down...Because of the insane tidal ranges the bigger tides late 11's early 12's I find can be tough to fish around an hour or so down....The speed and force of the water is bonkers...very hard to hold bottom. I have lived up here for over 10 Years and still find the volume of water that moves up and down the channel staggering. Link for tide times for you.... http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/NR/rdon...9TideTimes.pdf Cheers....Hope to see you up here some day!

Re: cod In answer to your origional question It is probably a bit late in the year for the upper channel marks, better move would be Swansea or Weston, Minehead way
