Question Cod at half term

Wil there be any cod or codling during half term at Exmouth, Budleigh, Ladram Bay or any other nearby spots?

Re: Cod at half term

BB you have the same problem as me no transport and no codfishing near home the nearest place to you likely of cod is either hopesnose and berry head or chesil beach realistically i know they are catching codling now at berry head upto 5lb (i ate one last night ) didnt catch it myself but a friend caught some and brought one round for me
anyone interested in fishing there i have been told that live peelercrab is the best bait at the moment although last year a whole squid with peelercrab inside it worked the best.

with cod at berry head im guessing if you put the hours in you will catch them at hopesnose too and possibly longquarry so hopefully if this weather breaks i would like to get down hopesnose if anyone is up for the climb one day? i will have to let you all know which days off work i have first though

Re: Cod at half term

Hi All
If theres a trip to Hopes Nose over the half term let me know I'll meet you down there and introduce myself. I have had codling at Hopes Nose in the past but always later in the year...it always worh a go though especially after the water has been churned up.
There should be some nice Dabs at the nose this time of year. The trick with the Dabs (for me at least) is to use 3 hook rigs with small baits. Worm on one (small lug if you can get it), worm and tiny fish chunk on another and small fish chucks on the third hook...this can work a treat. The fish chunks need to be small squares the size of your finger nails and treat the hook like a Kebab feeding the chunks on. A small hook loaded with squares of fish and small worms can work a treat.
I have seen anglers take bags of 20/30 Dabs using three hook small baits and it can be surprising how often Dabs show up at the Nose.
ALL THE BEST

Re: Cod at half term

great info grimes where abouts down the nose did you get the cod? tactics? never fished for them havent ever been into my bottom fish as much as i am this year and you mentioning small lug did you know about the sewer lug? and can you still get them now the sewer has been turned off? you use to be able to fill a bucket in minutes i will have to check tide times and maybe get there on a spring tide with low water midday so i can scout around for the sewer lug if they are still there then i will fill a couple of buckets

so far i think my days off are monday weds (but i cant fish weds night) and possibly thursday the forecast isnt great for monday so i guess keep an eye on the forecast and maybe fish thursday the tides look like they will be big though and i dont know if you need big or little tides down there maybe grimes can help me? a friend of mine says the first big tides of november is the time to fish for cod at the nose so we arent far off timing as the biggest tides run through the end of oct and into the start of november berry head would be more favoured as its alot easier to get too ( can drive down there and practically fish out of the back of the car!)
but i have never had any luck at that place
its upto you guys

Are you talking about down the quarry or somewhere else?
