Re: fishing in norway HI Les. You'll love it. And you'll catch a stink load of fish. A hhGPS is great. Go out with a guide and store his marks, (up front so no body gets upset though). It's not usually a problem. And then visit them with your own boat the next day or so. You'll clean up! It would be great to have a trip together some time where do you usually fish? Rob

Re: fishing in norway I went to Bergen when I was 11 on a school cruise to Scandinavia. We went on the SS Nevassa (since scrapped) which was the sister ship of one of the big cruise ships that went on the Falklands war, I can't remember its name. On board we watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which had just come out! Anyway, what I will always remember from that trip, and bearing in mind that most 11 year olds don't really take much in, was the fjords. They were just something else! The water was like a mill pond, the snow tipped mountains either side were perfectly reflected in the water, disturbed only by the ships wake. A memory I will always treasure. And from that day on I said one day I'll do it again. But only next time I'll take my rods! ![]() __________________ Come on you Irons

Hi Les. Yes I live in Germany have done for over twenty years now. Before that I lived in Australia and New Zealand. I even fished the Bay of Islands semi comercialy for 9 months. It wasn't lucrative but it was a lot of fun and we used to wonder if it couldn't be marketed as a tourist atraction . Fact is I do most of my fishing in Norway at the moment. I enjoy fishing from Weymouth occasionaly, they are very well organised over there and I love going out with pro's like Pat Carlin. The channel is wonderfull and completly different from Norway of course. But I really get a kick out of researching and developing my own marks and being my own skipper. The results can be incredible. Rob

Re: boat A 17,5 ft is about as small as you want to go. Generally I prefer over 20 ft and 100 hp diesel. But your boat will probably be okay in southern Norway as you'll probably be fishing inshore in a fjord. And 25 HP will get you to where you want to go. Make sure you know how to use that hand held GPS. Marks inshore can be as small as a couple of meters in diameter. I hope you have a sounder on board. You really need one also for safety reasons. I'll never forget racing out through the islands once. The water was flat as a pond and I had fun racing through the flocks of seagulls. But then I had a group of gulls that didn't want to budg. So I reved up and went straight at them. Untill I noticed they were standing on a rock about 3/4 in below the flat calm water Somtimes rocks rise out of nowhere and its good to have a depth sounder with and alarm. Take a simple compass with you. For some reason I haven't seen a boat in Norway with one and you'll find it very useful to orientate yourself with. Rob
